Diane Lapp


Dr Diane Lapp is a decorated educator and international leader in literacy education. Her many educational honours include the International Reading Association's 2011 John Chorlton Manning Award for her work in public schools. She is also a member of both the California and International Reading Halls of Fame.

Diane is a distinguished professor of education at San Diego State University. Her major area of research and instruction concerns issues related to struggling readers and writers, their families and their teachers.

In addition to her teaching and research activities, Diane provides professional learning to teachers on many topics related to purposeful instruction. She is a regular presenter at prestigious conferences for organisations like the International Reading Association, the National Council of Teachers of English and the Literacy Research Association. She has also chaired and co-chaired several International Reading Association and Literacy Research Association committees.

Diane has authored, coauthored and edited numerous articles, columns, texts, handbooks and children's materials on reading, literacy and instructional issues. She holds a master's degree in reading education and educational psychology and a doctorate in reading/language and curriculum.
