Get ready to go green! It’s never too early to teach children about the importance of taking care of the environment they live in. With the exciting and educational lessons in the Going Green series for Years F–8, your primary students will embrace the message and adopt sustainable practices that can be used throughout their lifetimes. What’s more, the series has been revised as of 2014 to assist Australian primary teachers in incorporating the cross-curricular priority of sustainability into their integrated teaching of Australian Curriculum learning areas, including geography, English, mathematics and science.
Using books from the Going Green series, students will consider current environmental issues such as polluted habitats, water wastage, the recycling process, biodegradable plastics, electronic waste, carbon footprints, energy efficiency, climate change, greenhouse gases and global warming. They will learn to reduce rubbish, refuse excess packaging, reuse items and recycle. They will also be encouraged to research and learn more about preserving the environment, and to respond by sharing their new learning with others. Scaffolded activities provide all students with opportunities to demonstrate what they are learning in a variety of ways including graphic representations, writing and art.
