Jeffrey S. Brooks is Associate Dean for Research and Innovation and Professor of Educational Leadership in the School of Education at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (RMIT), based in Bundoora, Australia. He is a two-time J. William Fulbright Senior Scholar alumnus who has conducted studies in the United States, Australia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines and in many other cross-national contexts. His research focuses broadly on educational leadership, and he examines the way leaders influence (and are influenced by) dynamics such as racism, globalization, social justice, student learning and school reform. He is author of two full-length research studies: The Dark Side of School Reform: Teaching in the Space between Reality and Utopia (Rowman & Littlefield Education) and Black School, White School: Racism and Educational (Mis)leadership (Teachers College Press). He is co-editor of Confronting Racism in Higher Education: Problems and Possibilities for Fighting Ignorance, Bigotry, and Isolation and Anti-Racist School Leadership: Toward Equity in Higher Education for America’s Students (both with Noelle Witherspoon Arnold). Dr. Brooks’s work has appeared in many peer-reviewed educational research journals, including Educational Policy, Educational Administration Quarterly, Journal of Research on Leadership in Education and the Journal of Educational Administration. He is Editor of the Journal of School Leadership and Series Editor of the Educational Leadership for Social Justice book series.
