About the Workshop


Dr Robert J. Marzano's popular New Art and Science of Teaching framework provides a general model of effective teaching. In this workshop, Dr Janelle Wills outlines how to effectively teach students how to express themselves through writing. Participants will acquire an inventory of engaging strategies for instruction and assessment and learn how to apply them in their own classrooms.

  • Identify the characteristic elements and structures of targeting writing genres.

  • Gain a wide range of effective writing strategies, including ways to teach vocabulary.

About Janelle Wills
Dr Janelle Wills


Dr Janelle Wills is the associate director of Marzano Research in Australia and New Zealand. She works extensively with educators, school networks and regions to implement research-based strategies known to impact student achievement. She firmly believes in the importance of teaching as a professional and promotes the need for teachers to engage with research through action research and reflective practice.


Dr Willls is the lead training associate for High Reliability Schools, The New Art and Science of Teaching and other Marzano Research topics in Australia and New Zealand. She has authored and co-authored numerous articles and books including the Australian version of A Handbook for High Reliability SchoolsCollaborative Teams That Transform Schools and Transformative Collaboration: Five Commitments for Leading a PLC.
