COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT OF MATHEMATICS STRATEGIES (CAMS® Plus)

Assessment – Identify student needs, monitor progress and assess mastery! (Levels A–H)

Get the data you need to drive instruction! Use the CAMS Plus pretest, post test and benchmark tests to pinpoint student needs, monitor progress and assess mastery. Visit our downloads page or scroll down to view sample pages from the CAMS Plus student book and teacher guide.

16 Pretests establish levels of student mastery in 16 essential skills and concepts

  • Measures student knowledge of maths concepts prior to STAMS Plus instruction.
  • Helps teachers take a data-driven approach to planning lessons by pinpointing which of the 16 STAMS Plus lesson topics require most classroom attention.

4 Benchmark tests assess classroom progress throughout the year

  • Benchmarks each test the same 16 STAMS Plus lesson topics as the pretests.
  • Allows individual and whole-class progress to be tracked and charted over the course of the school year.

16 Post tests demonstrate student mastery of essential topics following STAMS Plus instruction and SOLVE practice

  • Demonstrates for teachers the effectiveness of the CAMS Plus, STAMS Plus and Solve series in building student knowledge of the 16 key skills and concepts.
  • Identifies areas of mathematical learning requiring extension or remediation.

Teacher Guide includes valuable assessment charts and resources

  • Individual record sheets and performance graphs allow educators to use data to track the progress of each student, while class record sheets give a more general overview.
  • Provides a chart of relevant Australian Curriculum content descriptions and breaks down their applicability lesson by lesson.

Implementing CAMS® Plus assessments and STAMS® Plus lessons

For implementation of CAMS Plus and all 16 STAMS Plus lessons and the corresponding Solve® practices, follow this suggested pacing chart. Allocate 21 weeks, with each STAMS and the related Solve practice being completed simultaneously. Below is a suggested pacing chart for level C.

Option 1: Data-Driven Instruction

  1. Diagnose with CAMS Plus pretest
Use the CAMS Plus pretest to place students in the STAMS Series. Results identify which STAMS Plus lessons and corresponding Solve practices students need.

  2. Instruct with STAMS Plus lessons
Pinpoint a specific lesson in the STAMS Plus student book to remediate an area that needs improvement.

  3. Reinforce with Solve practices
Assign the corresponding practice in the Solve student book to provide reinforcement for the STAMS Plus lesson you just taught. The practice has the same number and title as the lesson.

  4. Monitor progress with CAMS Plus benchmarks
Assess progress in all 16 fundamental topics with the four 16-question CAMS Plus benchmarks at four points during the year.

  5. Assess mastery with CAMS Plus post test
Use the CAMS Plus post test to assess students’ mastery of the 16 maths concepts and skills following instruction with STAMS Plus and practice with Solve.

Option 2: Comprehensive instruction

For implementation of CAMS Plus and all 16 STAMS Plus lessons and the corresponding Solve® practices, follow this suggested pacing chart. Allocate 21 weeks, with each STAMS and the related Solve practice being completed simultaneously. Below is a suggested pacing chart for level C.

Comprehensive instruction

Note:
Allocate 19 weeks for full implementation of the CAMS® Plus and STAMS® Plus program, with each lesson spanning 5 school days.
